AkzoNobel Specialty Chemicals – Posted by admin Arnhem, Gelderland, Netherlands

Job Description

Global Technologist Chelates & Micronutrients

Bring high level technical, project management and Continuous Improvement skills to a dynamic international chemicals arena.

AkzoNobel’s Specialty Chemicals (SC) provides a wide range of high quality and sustainable ingredients that are integral to numerous key industrial processes worldwide. Thus we serve high profile customers in sectors including paints, detergents, foods, plastics, cosmetics, construction, pulp and paper, pharmaceuticals, electronics, agro and oilfield applications.

As part of SC’s business unit (BU) Ethylene and Sulfur Derivatives the sBU Chelates & Micronutrients (C&M) operates four sites, distributed over Europe, China and the US.

Within this context, your mission in this role is to build the technology competence of C&M’s global site network. In doing so you work closely with Site Engineers, Engineering Managers and Site Managers to strengthen C&M’s global engineering team and support the development of the Manufacturing and Technology organization.

As such, this is a global role in which you must be prepared to travel for 50% of your time within China, the US and Europe. This will involve periods of 1-2 weeks away from your home base at our major hub in Arnhem, the Netherlands.

Is this a challenge that matches your profile as a committed and quality-focused professional with a Continuous Improvement mindset? Can you operate with a high level of autonomy while demonstrating outstanding project management skills? Are you eager to grow your skills and career within a fast-moving international context? Above all, can you make a real difference within our dynamic and multinational business environment?

If you offer all this and more, we invite you to apply for the position of Global Technologist Chelates & Micronutrients.

The role and its responsibilities

This is a wide-ranging position that encompasses three main areas of activity:

Continuous Improvement projects for existing operations

This demands the development of process monitoring KPIs and the implementation of improved OEE and Variable Cost monitoring tools on the C&M sites. You also support site teams in using the KPIs for the effective identification of CI projects and in the execution of Black and Brown Belt projects – acting as a core team member or steering team member.

Improvement initiatives must be based on sound gap analyses.

Strategic project portfolio

You support the development and execution of strategic growth projects – either as Project Leader or Licensor depending on size and complexity of the projects. This will often require you to manage complex and hazardous chemical projects with high potential impact on both performance and image of AkzoNobel.

Technology competence building

You support and drive competence building in the technology teams in the areas of Process Safety, Engineering Standards and Project Management methods. In doing so you demonstrate functional excellence in project management for the higher capital projects. You also share the Process expertise of site engineering teams, enhance the network of site engineers, recognize best practices and promote best practice sharing.

Further, you demonstrate functional excellence in Process Safety Management and provide standardized scenarios for processes operated on multiple sites. You also support the professional development of site engineering team members.

At all times and on all projects you adhere to corporate rules and standards.

Candidate profile

To apply for this position you must possess all the following attributes

  • Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering and at least 5 years of relevant work experience;
  • Proven management skills, preferably linked to C&M processes;
  • Willingness to travel frequently and extensively (50% of your time);
