PostDoc Opportunity in Human Genetics – Neurogenomics
A PostDoc Opportunity is currently available at the Center for Integrative Biology (CIBIO), Trento, Laboratory of Neurogenomic Biomarkers, for the following research project: Discovery of genetic mechanisms regulating brain expression of schizophrenia risk loci through epistasis (two years contract).
The successful candidate will implement established advanced computational and statistical methods to identify epistatic effects influencing transcription in the human brain. The project is based on the availability of large gene expression data sets from precompetitive public consortia and will have two aims: i) identifying epistatic interactions involving genetic variants in schizophrenia risk loci and affecting the brain transcriptome; ii) generating a compendium of SNP-SNP interactions governing brain gene expression by genome-wide analysis.
The ideal candidate will have dedicated experience (> 3 years and relevant publications) in human genomics and demonstrated knowledge in the analysis of transcriptome data (including RNASeq data) and statistical genetic approaches on large scale datasets. Demonstrated skills in programming languages and software environments for statistical computing are required.
Additional qualifications: experience in the neuroscience area, previous experience in eQTL and epistasis analysis of GWAS datasets. Familiarity with high-performance computing environments is desirable.
A PhD title in statistical genetics, biostatistics, bioinformatics, computer science, computational biology, genomics or equivalent title awarded by an Italian or foreign university, or an equivalent qualification obtained abroad. Candidates who have finished their PhD thesis and will complete their PhD programme before the start date of the fellowship may also apply for selection, but proof of obtaining the qualification must be certified before the research programme start date. Good/Excellent knowledge of the English language and a professional-scientific CV in line with the research program are also required.
Candidates are invited to contact the PI for inquiries or to express their interest through a preliminary application by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org using the keyword “Postdoc Neurogenomics” in the title. Preliminary applications should include: i) your curriculum vitae; ii) a letter of intent; iii) a brief research proposal consistent with the purpose of the research, in which the candidate explains how he/she would develop the research topic; iv) two letters of recommendation.
The position is available starting from March 2016.
CIBIO offers a highly dynamic environment, with research programs interconnected by a high degree of internal co-operation, in the context of a vibrant experimental environment characterized by young independent group leaders and advanced postdoctoral fellows. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to interact and collaborate with members of major research programs in Cancer Biology & Genomics, Cell & Molecular Biology, Microbiology & Synthetic Biology, Neurobiology & Development.
