Job Title: Humanitarian Advocacy Manager

Closing date: 7th March 2017

Location: London, UK

Salary: Level 5 £43,000 incl. Inner London Weighting

Contract: 35 hours per week, permanent

The British Red Cross (BRC) helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. BRC is a National Society of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement; the world’s largest independent humanitarian network.

The Humanitarian Advocacy manager will manage a small team of policy and advocacy advisers and will work in the broader Humanitarian Policy Department and the wider International Directorate to have the greatest influence and impact on a number of core humanitarian work streams. They will strengthen BRC’s influence migration and displacement as well as on emergencies, and ensure that BRC’s voice is in keeping with its Fundamental Principles. They will also build and maintain a wide network of relationships both within the Movement, externally, with HMG and with other relevant stakeholders in order to sustain high level knowledge of key trends and policy processes and thereby strengthen BRC’s opportunities for influence.

The Humanitarian Policy (HP) team is made up of a small and dynamic group of advisers in BRC’s International Directorate who are tasked with ensuring high quality policy and advocacy that enables improved humanitarian outcomes. Our work currently focuses on a range of issues directly relevant to the work of the Movement:

  • Migration and displacement
  • National Humanitarian Action
  • Principled Humanitarian Action
  • Silent and complex emergencies
  • Civil-military relations
  • Trends in humanitarian action and their implications for the Movement
  • Red Cross Movement policy support and Movement relations
