Communications Intern (Volunteer Position: Berlin, Germany 16 Hours/Week)

Have you got a way with words and the eye for a good photo? Skateistan is currently seeking an enthusiastic individual with a passion for non-profit work and an interest in skateboarding or action sports in general, to join our team as the Communications Volunteer for three months. The position offers the successful candidate the opportunity to gain valuable communications experience in both the non-profit and action sports industry, as well as gain insight into the workings of an International NGO that is recognized for its innovation in the field of ‘Sport for Development’.

As the Communications Volunteer, you will work closely with Skateistan’s Communications Manager, local team and the fundraising department. This role will focus on Skateistan’s platforms, content, press coverage and social media. There is also the opportunity to get creative with the team for fundraising drives, content ideas and other campaigns.

This is a volunteer position of 16 hours per week, from June 2017 through August 2017. This uncompensated position provides office perks, flexible hours, and hands-on experience and is based at Skateistan’s headquarters in Berlin, Germany.

Position Core Responsibilities

  • Assisting with the organisation of Skateistan’s content, including:
  • Archiving of weekly photos/videos
  • Selection of best archived assets
  • Segmentation of new content for social media, newsletters and internal use
  • Helping to maximise the amazing content from Skate Schools around the world – working with the local teams to do so
  • Assisting with scheduling and monitoring of Skateistan social media platforms
  • Monitoring social media engagement and reach
  • Monitoring earned media; online and traditional – plus assisting with everyday media requests
  • Archiving of press clippings and creating coverage reports
  • Assisting on other creative communications projects and fundraising campaigns
  • Helping to curate blog posts, external newsletters and internal updates
  • Researching new social platforms, fundraising ideas and blog content

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • Berlin-based for three months
  • Able to commit 2 days a week – 16 hours – during regular office hours (Tues-Thurs, 9am-5pm)
  • Native-level English (written/spoken)
  • Experience working in communications or an interest in
  • Photography and photo editing skills
  • Experienced with social media platforms
  • Good communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills – understanding of working through Google Drive
  • Highly organized and able to multi-task
  • Self-motivated and strong attention to detail
  • Passionate about sport for development, skateboarding or action sports
  • Enthusiastic to learn

Desired Skills

  • Graduate or student of Communications, Journalism, or related degree program
  • Experience in administrative or office environment
  • Experience volunteering for a non-profit
  • Basic graphic design skills – use of photoshop, indesign
  • Experience of using basic film/photo editing software – premiere pro, photoshop.
